Creating an integrated industrial system in the Alfa Acciai Group
Being part of an organisation that is a European leader in the production of reinforcing steel for the construction industry using EAF technology, has intensified Ferroberica's commitment to specialism in terms of reliability, efficiency and competitiveness.
The Alfa Acciai Group is a European leader in steel making.
The companies in the Group include:
- Alfa Acciai, based in Brescia and one of the largest EAF steel mills in Italy;
- Acciaierie di Sicilia, based in Catania, the southern heartland for steel production using EAF technology;
- Tecnofil, based in Brescia and one of the largest wire drawing mills in Europe;
- Ferroberica, based in Vicenza and a European leader in pre-shaping and assembling reinforcing steel for civil engineering, industrial, road, railway and maritime works.
The Alfa Acciai Group was established and developed thanks to an upstream and downstream business integration strategy implemented by the Alfa Acciai parent company, and can meet a wide range of partner and customer business requirements and high quality standards.
The Group has an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of high ductility class C steel - which is ideal for use in seismic areas and has uniform, repeatable characteristics - and wire rod. The properties of this material enable customers to optimise their processing parameters and keep production performance levels high.
The steel used at Ferroberica in its products and services comes from Alfa Acciai and Acciaierie di Sicilia, companies which have ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification for Quality, Environment and Safety Management Systems, and European SUSTSTEEL certification issued by EUROFER, the European Steel Association.
The products manufactured by the Group have the following endorsements attesting to their high quality and compatibility with sustainable building criteria:
- ISO 14021 regarding recycled material (our products are 98% recycled material);
- ISO 14025 (environmental product declaration, a certified voluntary declaration regarding product environmental impact, available to the public, which analyses process energy efficiency, impact in terms of renewable and non-renewable resources used, and emission levels);
- Italian ICMQ ECO certification that measures product-associated environmental performance.
Ferroberica's strategy to use reinforcing steel produced by Alfa Acciai and Acciaierie di Sicilia only, ensures national and international standards are met, and represents a guarantee of reliability and repeatability for final users, which also means significant cost savings for site checks stipulated by current legislation (Ministerial decree 17/01/2018, article 11.3.2.12 Site Acceptance Tests).
